my experience, it as mistakely referred to by many people
as 'sports massage'.

It
is a style of massage that uses brisk movements that are designed
to stimulate and invigorate the body.
It refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed
to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper
muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the
flow of blood returning to the heart. This increases the oxygen
flow in the blood and releases toxins from the muscles.
It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple
and pliable. It also stimulates the skin and nervous system
whilst soothing the nerves themselves at the same time.
For this reason it is extremely beneficial in reducing stress,
both emotional and physical, and is often suggested as part
of a regular program for stress management.
